This logo is a disgrace to the image of the great program known as Game Maker. Please, people have enough things to mock it for as it is, let’s not do more harm…

This logo is the worst marketing decision yoyo could have taken. It does not fit their target market and does not create a professional image. When making a game, we want to give the possibility to the users that they can create professional looking game. When we look at this logo, it looks like we can make… well crappy smilies jumping around ahah.

This is madness. No offense to the logo artist (because I think he did a good job) but Sandy Duncan and Mark Overmars chose the worst logo out of the finalist logos! And that logo is a rip off of a copyrighted logo by Yahoo!

The logo I too childish. I saw much more appropriate ones submitted to the competition.

Problem…I’m sure ALBERT ZAK already got his 250 bucks…I think he did an absolutely great job for a logo….but not for a game maekr logo. Anyway, I hate to be a party pooper….but even if we protest…so what? are they gonna completely REDO the compatition and regiveout the prizes?

Horrible logo,

- the eyes seem like they are crying not excited.
- It conveys absolutely no message.
- It will portray the program as something that a certain age range should only use, kids.
- Zero originality.

The “designer” got $250 for this atrocity? I don’t want to offend him but he should leave the logo work to others who at least have some grasp about what design is.

Someone send this to Yahoo, they might be able to sue YoYo Games for a bunch and get the logo changed.

I would agree with Yoyogames that the new logo looks really fun and all that, but I think it should be at least a little more contained. Having such a provoking logo is a little bit too much – it should be toned down at least to the level of the yahoo logo. On top of this, the lighting is done very poorly, as I mentioned in comment #554 of the Yoyogames glog. If GM is going to switch logos so completely, it should be to a professional-quality logo. Otherwise, GM should keep the logo (roughly) the same – it is too dangerous to the potential of an uprising enterprise to completely change its logo to something arguably equal or lower in quality to the old logo.

I recommended in my post on the glog that you switch to a GMC-like logo. Perhaps this is a good idea, perhaps it is not, but I am fairly certain that it would be a better idea than use of the new logo.

All over the world male adult Gm users will be quickly covering this logo with porn when their wife walks in the room.

I’ve never used GM, but was going to give it a try to see if it actually was comparable to programming games yourself as so many people have said.

With that kind of a logo, I doubt I’ll try. It just seems to scream how the product is a toy for kids, nothing to be taken seriously.

Ok, wtf is that? look, i’ll agree the old logo needed updating, but this pug fugly thing is nothing like the old logo… i like the one chris has better, it’s simple, and it’s the game maker logo, just updated.

As someone who worked with his son to create a couple possible logos (not this one), I have to say it is really hard to find an idea that doesn’t look close to something else already done, especially if you want it to work as an icon.

I’m not too concerned with its similarity to Yahoo! logo. Trademark law usually allows similar logos as long as the company products aren’t similar. However, since Yahoo! does have games then maybe this is too close. Anyway, a lawyer can figure that out.

Otherwise, I really don’t care about the logo for a program I’m using. Unless of course YoYo wants to choose one of my submissions — my best is a super-nova like explosion!

This is crap, it looks like it’s an application made for two year olds, a toy. The new logo will scare away possible members, and give Gamemaker a worse reputation than it already has in the programming communities. The logo should be modernized, keeping it the same – A hammer, but giving it a different color.

Please change it to something that looks respectable

The new logo made me sad. I liked the old hammer, it looked proffesional. This just makes Game Maker look like some kind of child’s plaything. Very dissapointed, YoYoGames.

All though it wasn’t my favorite, when I come to think about it, I like it! Except the pupils should be at the bottom of the eyes, putting them at the top makes it look scary. But really, it actually kind of goes well with Game Maker. The smile represents fun (games), and the gear represents a factory (making stuff). Games + making stuff = Game Maker.

There are serious game developers out there losing dignity because of this logo. People actually looking to SELL their game. The GMC can be full of immature nine year olds if it wants, but don’t make the one thing that represents your program, the one thing that you look at every single time you use the program look immature too.

A gear = unoriginal, a smiley = unoriginal, this particular smiley’s eyes = ugly and hard to actually comprehend, lighting & coloring = a bunch of gradients, creator = arrogance incarnate.

Gear is a reasonable idea, i dont particular like the yahoo one either, but this smiley is HORRIFIC. I want to smash its face in with a hammer, preferably the old logo.

I looked on the runners-up topic, and when I saw that this had been selected, I simply gaped. Badly.

This logo rips off YM, looks like it is crying and does NOT fit in with GM whatsoever.

Not only does it creep the heck outta me, it looks as though the smile was way too big for the face, and the nose of the smiley has been crushed into the eyes to make space for the mouth, causing the snot/mucus of it to leak out of it’s pained eyes.

This is the new logo? Yuck. Since when does a crying smiley face on top of a gear have anything to do with game design? I’d like to use the old logo(a hammer)to smash this one to pieces. Yahoo’s not going to be happy to see such a ripoff…the risk of having a lawsuit about it is huge.

I would disagree with this logo choice if Game Maker was for serious game development. Regardless of how many older users there are, Game Maker’s target audience is still children. Thus the logo is quite suitable.

Its stupid looking not to mention its completely different than the original logo.
